LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed a bill that will double the state’s Brownfield Program from $1.6-billion to $3.2-billion.
The bill is likely to give a boost to General Motors and Bedrock as they work to redevelop the mostly-vacant Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit.
A single transformational brownfield project can now capture up to $300-million in state tax revenue.
GM moved its headquarters out of the RenCen complex early this year, leaving nearly 90% of it empty.
