  • The Cinderella Project

    The Cinderella Project of Kalamazoo is an annual event that provides free prom dresses and accessories to local high school young women who otherwise would not be able to afford to attend their own prom.

    For the first time, this annual event is having an open call for all area high school girls.

    Tomorrow from Noon-4pm at The Girl Scout Heart of Michigan's Program Training facility on 601 W. Maple Street in Kalamazoo.

    Ladies need to bring their high school I.D.

    The 1st ANNUAL CONCORD MEN WHO COOK EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE ON APRIL 21ST AT THE CONCORD HIGH SCHOOL CAFETERIA.  A RAFFLE WILL TAKE PLACE AS WELL.  PRIZES INCLUDE THE BAND PERRY CONCERT TICKETS, TIGER BASEBALL TICKETS AND MORE.  CALL 517 524-8744 FOR MORE INFORMATION.  THIS IS A FUNDRAISER FOR GLORIA KLINGLER’S CANCER EXPENSES.

  • A Super Sweep

    Today we participated in the annual 'Super Market Sweep' for the Food Bank of South Central Michigan.

    Charlie, Jack and I represented WIN 98-5 at the competition.

    We collected nearly $180 of groceries for the Food Bank.

    We also placed third in the friendly competition.

    This looks festive, yummy & so easy to make.

    Crescent Roll Taco Bake

    2 crescent roll tubes
    1 LB ground beef (or ground turkey)
    1 packet of taco seasoning
    1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
    Shredded lettuce
    1 or 2 diced tomatoes depending on size
    1/2 small can sliced olives if desired
    Sour cream optional
    sliced avacado optional

    Lay out the two tubes of crescent pastry, thick sides in. Use some of the left over crescent rolls to to make the center a bit thicker. 
    Brown beef and add taco seasoning. 
    Lay beef in a circle inside of the laid out crescent rolls
    Add cheese to the top
    Pull over crescent rolls and tuck in under meat and cheese. 
    Add cheese, lettuce, tomato, black olives, sour cream or whatever you desire for your tacos, in the middle. 

     

    HERE'S ONE MORE:

     

    Nacho Pot Pie

    3 cup chicken broth (from 32-oz carton)
    1/2 cup butter or margarine
    2 medium carrots, cut into 1/4-inch slices
    2 shallots, finely chopped (1/2 cup)
    3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
    2 tablespoons taco seasoning mix (from 1-oz package)
    3/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    1/4 cup whipping cream
    2 cups shredded deli rotisserie chicken (from 2-lb chicken)
    1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained, rinsed
    1 bag (12 oz) frozen corn, thawed
    4 cups crushed tortilla chips
    1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend (4 oz)

    Heat oven to 375°F. In 4-quart saucepan, heat broth over medium-high heat. Remove from heat; cover to keep warm.

    In Dutch oven, melt butter with 2 tablespoons of the warm broth over medium-high heat. Add carrots, shallots, garlic, taco seasoning, pepper and salt. Cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until carrots are tender. Gradually add flour, stirring with whisk. Cook 1 to 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in whipping cream and remaining warm broth. Heat to boiling; add chicken, beans and corn. Reduce heat; simmer uncovered 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.

    Spoon mixture into ungreased 11x7-inch (2-quart) baking dish. Top with crushed tortilla chips. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake uncovered 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Serves 8
