    Posted by Kim Brixton

    PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD---

AS A GRADUATE OF WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY AND FORMER GENERAL MANAGER OF THE STUDENT RUN RADIO STATION AT WMU, I'M SHOCKED THAT THE FATE OF BOTH THE RADIO STATION AND NEWSPAPER ARE AT STAKE.

STUDENTS AT WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY WILL VOTE THIS WEEK, WHETHER THE MEDIA STAYS OR GOES.

JUST $5 A SEMESTER PER STUDENT WILL SECURE THE FUNDING NEEDED FOR BOTH OUTLETS.

I THINK IT'S A NO-BRAINER...BUT IF YOU ARE A STUDENT OR KNOW OF ANY WMU STUDENTS THAT WILL VOTE, PLEASE ENCOURAGE THEM TO SAY YES!!  WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO HAVE A VOICE ON CAMPUS AND IN THE COMMUNITY!!!

  • What Color Is The Smoke

    Posted by Kim Brixton

The world's eyes are on the Vatican.

The voting process has begun to elect a new Pontiff.

Although I am familiar with the process because I am Catholic, there is something that is forever etched on my brain that reminds me of the tradition.

From the 60's movie Shoes Of The Fisherman......

Billowing smoke from the Sistine Chapel sends a signal to the world---

    Black Smoke=Not yet

    White Smoke=A New Pope

  • The $50,000 SHOT

    Posted by Kim Brixton

The pre-game festivities at The Missouri Valley Conference Championship game included the $50K shot!!

Alex Permann, a 24-year-old optometry student at the University of Missouri-St. Louis was selected and was ready for the shooting contest; make a layup, free throw, 3-pointer and half-court shot in the allotted time to win a prize – 24 seconds, in Sunday's case, and $50,000.

Permann hit the layup, nailed the free throw, then dashed to the midcourt line and buried a half-court shot, waving his hands in joy as the crowd roared, thinking they had just seen the big winner of the weekend.

When he hit the long range shot, he thought he won the CASH.

    Ooops.

He forgot about sinking the 3-pointer --

By the time he realized his mistake, he had time to rush off a couple of 3-point attempts, but missed.

Rules are rules. MVC officials huddled and came up with a compromise. Permann will get four tickets for life to the MVC tournament and four VIP passes and a three-day hotel stay in St. Louis for next year's tournament.

  • Where Does That Hour Go?

    Posted by Kim Brixton

This weekend we'll spring forward and lose an hour.

Don't bother looking for that hour though---we'll get it back in the fall.

Here are some things to think about and do when we spring forward....

Daylight Savings time begins at 2am Sunday March 10th. The first week is usually snarky: auto accidents & heart attacks increase plus work productivity's down.

On the plus side, it's a good reminder to check our batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

    Spring Forward Checklist

    • 1. Change the clocks, change the batteries
    • 2. Replace light bulbs
    • 3. Check the first-aid kit
    • 4. Review your family emergency plan
    • 5. Find the flashlights and replace their batteries
    • 6. Replace the water filter in your refrigerator
    • 7. Check/replace furnace filter
    • 8. Clean the dryer vent
    • 9. Reset timers on outdoor lights
    • 10. Re-caulk the shower tub
