Kalamazoo, MI (WKZO) – As no surprise, the Western Michigan men’s basketball team is an overwhelming underdog in their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004 against Syracuse. The #14 seed Broncos are currently 12.5 underdogs, according to Bovada Sportsbook, against the Orangemen, who have lost five of their last seven, after opening the season with 25 straight wins before suffering their first loss.
While 12.5 points might seem like a lot for a team that has won 14 of its last 16, out of all the #14 seeds the Broncos are given the second lowest amount of points. ( North Carolina Central +9 vs. Iowa State, Mercer +13 vs. Duke and UL-Lafayette +14 vs. Creighton)
If I had to place a bet on the game I would have a hard time not taking WMU and the points. Syracuse is 1-6-1 against the spread in its last eight games and the fact that they don’t light up the scoreboard either, the Broncos shouldn’t have a difficult time keeping the game within 12 points.
I have no idea what will happen in the game but out of all the #3 vs. #14 games, I picture the Broncos as having the best shot at a possible upset.
Vegas has the over/under at 128.
WMU and Syracuse tip-off on Thursday afternoon in Buffalo, NY at 2:45pm.
