Kalamazoo, MI (WKZO) – Shayne Whittington had 22 points and seven rebounds as the Western Michigan University Men’s Basketball Team concluded its exhibition with a 69-54 victory over the Aquinas College Saints.
The Broncos led 31-25 at halftime despite trailing 25-22 with 1:54 left in the first half. WMU closed out the half on a 9-0 run, and then scored the first nine points of the second half before Aquinas finally scored a three, cutting the deficit to 40-28. WMU largest lead was at 24, 67-43 with 2:31 left.
David Brown added 11 points and Connar Tava had nine and seven rebounds. Luke Sorenson topped the scoring charts for the Saints with 13.
WMU beat Kalamazoo College 88-59 in its only other exhibition game.
The Broncos open the regular season against New Mexico State on Saturday November, 8th at 1:30am in the Outrigger Hotels and Resort Rainbow Classic held in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Game Notes: The Broncos shot 43.6% from the field, and 5-20 from behind the arc. They went 16-28 from the free throw line…15 Broncos played at least one minute and no one played more than 28 minutes…Kellen McCormick topped the Broncos’ bench with six points…WMU turned the ball over nine times in the first half and only twice in the second half…Freshman Tucker Haymond missed all five of his field goal attempts and was just 1 for 6 from the free throw line.
