Ypsilanti, MI (WKZO) – A day after firing head coach Ron English, the Eastern Michigan University Eagles defeated in-state directional school rival Western Michigan 35-32 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
Ryan Brumfield scored from four yards out on the Eagles (2-8, 1-5 MAC) possession in overtime, right after the Broncos kicked a 36 yard field goal on the opening possession. WMU held a 29-21 lead with 6:51 left in the game, but EMU went on a 6:00 minute 12 play 75 yard drive, ending with a Dustin Creel 10 yard TD reception and after the successful 2-point conversion the game was tied at 29 and headed to OT.
Zach Terrell went 24 of 39 for 348 yards with one touchdown and one interception for WMU (1-9, 1-5). Terrell’s only TD pass went to Corey Davis for 70 to put WMU in the lead 23-21 in the third quarter. Davis had six receptions for 112 yards and was joined in the 100 yard club but Kendrick Roberts who hauled in four catches for 106 yards.
Andrew Haldeman was a perfect six for six on field goals attempted and success made kicks of 48, 23, 30, 29, 25 and 36.
Brian Fields scored the only other touchdown for WMU on a seven yard run to tie the game at seven in the first quarter.
The Broncos welcome Central Michigan to Waldo Stadium next weekend. Kick-off is set for noon.
