Harris Named Women's Basketball MAC Player of the Week

by Carolyn Binder

Western Michigan junior forward Marquisha Harris was recognized as the Mid-American Conference West Division women's basketball Player of the Week after a standout performance at Chicago State Sunday.

Harris totaled 19 points and a career-high 19 rebounds in Western Michigan’s 67-49 road win against the Cougars. It was her first double-double of the season and the sixth of her career.

Harris' 19 rebounds tied as the third most in a single game in Bronco women’s basketball history and was the most hauled in by a member of the Brown & Gold since the 2006-07 season. Her total also registers as the most rebounds by a player from the Mid-American Conference this season. The 19 points was the second-highest scoring game of her career.

Harris shot 7-for-15 (46.6%) from the floor and collected six caroms on the offensive side of the glass. In a well-rounded effort, she dished out three assists and had one block, as well as one steal.

The win snapped a three-game skid for the Broncos, who improved their record to 3-4. Western Michigan returns to Kalamazoo for a three-game homestand, beginning with IUPUI onWednesday, Dec. 4.

Western Michigan swept the weekly basketball conference Player of the Week awards. Bronco sophomore forward Connar Tava was honored by the MAC on the men's side. Harris' recognition was the second of her career, while Tava earned his first nod.
