by Kim Brixton

THE ORGANIZATION THAT BENEFITS FROM OUR POKER RUN-RIDE FOR THE VETS EVENT ON JULY 12TH IS DESCRIBED BELOW:

FOR BATTLE CREEK'S VETERANS THAT NEED HELP, THERE'S AN ORGANIZATION THAT CAN HELP.

THE BATTLE CREEK VETERAN'S RELIEF FUNDS SERVES SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN.

PICTURE AN AREA VETERAN WHO IS TRYING TO REBUILD THEIR LIFE BACK HOME. SOMETIMES THEY NEED A LITTLE HELP WITH COMPLETING FORMS, GETTING POINTED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION...OR JUST ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY THE FIRST MONTH'S RENT. THAT'S WHERE THE B.C. VETERANS RELIEF FUNDS CAN HELP. THIS FUND HAS HELPED DOZENS OF VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES FOR PAST DUE RENT, UTILITY BILLS AND FOOD AND TRAVEL REQUESTS.

THIS ORGANIZATION PROVIDES EMERGENCY FUNDING FOR AN ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBER AND THEIR FAMILIES WHILE THE MEMBER IS DEPLOYED, ALL HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS (REGARDLESS OF TIME IN SERVICE OR WAR TIME SERVICE) AND ALL WIDOWS/WIDOWERS OF HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS.

ESTABLISHED 2 YEARS AGO, THE BCVRF WAS INITIALLY FUNDED BY THE B.C. AMERICAN LEGION POST 298 AND POST 54 WITH HELP FROM THE CALHOUN COUNTY DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS CHAPTER 7. ALL MONIES DONATED TO THIS FUND ARE USED IN THE SW MICH AREA.

TO QUALIFY FOR A MONETARY GRANT, THE VETERAN MUST FILL OUT A REQUEST FORM AND PROVIDE ALL OF THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION. UPON VALIDATION THE COO WILL FACILITATE PAYMENT. NO MONIES ARE GIVEN TO A VETERAN DIRECTLY.

MEMBERS OF THE VOLUNTEER EXECUTIVE BOARD INCLUDE THE CURRENT SITTING COMMANDERS OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED GROUPS. CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER IS GERALD E. SCHMIDT. CALL 269 425-5854 OR EMAIL eagle0551@live.com for MORE INFORMATION.
