KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Multiple “Borgess Run for the Health of It!” running events are set for this weekend in Kalamazoo, including the 8th-annual Kalamazoo Marathon.
Organizer Blaine Lam is expecting 2,000 children to take part in a fun run and the motivational mile on Friday, and 8,000 people to participate in five running events Sunday, including the 8 a.m. marathon.
“This is the largest event of its kind in this region by quite a large factor because we got a 37-year tradition,” Lam said. “We also have the ability to attract people from across the country.”
Lam said the weekend is essentially a big fundraiser for four children’s charities.
“It’s not uncommon for us to be in the $35,000 range,” Lam said.
Last-minute registrations will be accepted during Saturday’s expo at Wings Event Center.
