During Saturday's Empire Super Sprint Series race in Canandaigua New York, three time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart was involved in a bizarre incident that resulted in the death of a fellow driver Kevin Ward Jr.
Video of the crash showed Ward, in the No. 13 car, spin into a wall after contact with Stewart's car. Moments after the spin out, Ward, quickly exited his car and proceeded to walk on the track in the direction of oncoming cars in what appeared to be an attempt to confront Stewart, who was in his No. 14 car that was making it's way around the track.
What happened next is tragic and could have been avoided.
Ward dodged a couple of passing cars but then he appeared to be hit by the right side of Stewart's car. Although rescue workers reached Ward within seconds, the 20 year old driver didn't survive. He was pronounced dead later at a local hospital.
