His final words....

by Jack Spade

The 2013 CMA Fest had some deeply touching moments, and possibly the most memorable was a panel led by country music icon George Jones‘ wife of 30 years, Nancy Jones. During that emotional time, she shared stories of her husband — along with his last words.

According to Country Weekly, George’s longtime drummer, Bobby Birkhead, and artists and friends Jamey Johnson, John Rich and Randy Travis also participated in paying tribute to Possum. There were sweet times of laughter in remembering some hilarious antics, as Nancy Jones told a story of how she once stopped her husband from impatiently blowing his car’s horn by coming out of the house dressed in only her underwear.

However, the most memorable part of the panel was when she revealed Jones’ last words in her closing remarks. “‘Hiya. I’ve been looking for you. I’m George Jones,’” she recalls her husband saying.
