KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A candlelight vigil was held last night in the Edison Neighborhood for the two teens, Marsavious Frazier and Daqarion Hunter who died after what police say was an accidental shooting on Monday evening. Two Kalamazoo families are in mourning after the deaths of the two popular teens.
Jonathan Frazier says police told him that his son accidentally shot Hunter while they were handling the gun on Monday. He says his family is devastated.
A friend who witnessed their deaths says there was no argument or fight before the tragedy.
Hunter had just graduated in the spring from Loy Norrix High School and was to start classes at KVCC. Frazier was to start his senior year at Phoenix High School in Kalamazoo.
Prosecutor Jeff Getting says the only way he would probably see the case is if there was some criminality involved in the way they got their hands on the gun. He says more has to be done by gun owners to make sure that guns are secured. He says just last month a 15-year-old who got his hands on his grandfather’s gun accidentally shot a female cousin during a party. She survived.
Public Safety Capt. Vic Ledbetter says tracing the unregistered gun back to its owner will be part of the investigation into Monday’s shooting.
