ANN ARBOR, MI (WTVB) – The University of Michigan is 14th in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season.
Big Ten rival Ohio State is number-one, followed by LSU, Alabama and Penn State. The top four teams at the end of the season meet in the national semifinals.
Michigan is on a bye this week.
Former Western Michigan football coach P.J. Fleck has received a seven-year extension from Minnesota after leading the Golden Gophers to an 8-0 record and a No. 13 ranking in the AP Top 25 this season. The new deal will run through 2026 and pay Fleck $4.6 million in 2020 with raises of $50,000 in each subsequent season.
Fleck was hired by Minnesota in 2017, one year after leading Western Michigan to a 13-1 record and a Cotton Bowl berth, and is 20-13 in three seasons with the Gophers.
Weestern Michigan University made themselves bowl eligible Tuesday night, beating Ball State 35-31 to improve to 6-4 on the season.
