KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Today has officially been declared “Dump the Pump” day in Kalamazoo.
If you go on line to the Metro Transit site, you can get a free pass to ride the Kalamazoo buses all day, and if you don’t mind paying, they suggest you leave the car parked and leave the driving to them.
It’s also their way of introducing more people to the service.
As part of the “Dump the Pump” experience, anyone who has pedaled down Kalamazoo’s trail system knows its actually two systems, one on the east that follows the river and one on the west which heads out of town and eventually to Lake Michigan, with Downtown Kalamazoo in between the two.
Beginning today, they plan to mark out a temporary link between the two systems using construction cones…as a pilot for a permanent trail.
The City’s Laura Lamb says it will be monitored to see how it works during this brief tryout period.
This trail linkage has been a long sought goal and one of the last sections needed to create a comprehensive trail system in Kalamazoo.
