Here's a story of a man named Lin. An NBA player, who has become a household name.
Jeremy Lin finally got to play ball in the BIG league---but his road there was awfully bumpy.
A few years ago Jeremy Lin lead his high school basketball team in Palo Alto CA to a state championship. He also made the first team All state squad. Despite these credentials, he was not recruited by any school--major or minor. So he went to Harvard, got his degree and played basketball there all four years earning first team All Ivy honors. Still the NBA did not look his way. Lin was not drafted. After being part of an NBA Summer League, he did get attention from The Golden State Warriors. They brought Lin on board only to be cut a short time later. The Houston Rockets then picked him up and dropped him soon after. Finally The Knicks picked him up on waivers and were about the cut him again, however the organization needed to grab deep from their bench because of injuries to a couple of key players.
February 4th was a pivotal day for Lin, he got the nod to pick up the slack for the hobbling Knicks. He scored 25 pts, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 7 assists in a NY victory. Since that game the Knicks are on a tear---and have won seven in a row. Lin is also setting records...he scored 136 points in his first five starts--that's the most by any NBA player since the NBA merged with the ABA in '76. I'm sure Lin is enjoying the ride, and the country has been having fun witnessing his metoric rise. The puns describing his unbelievable streak are plentiful and quite humorous. 'Lin-sane', 'Lin-tastic', 'Lin Long & Prosper.' David Letterman even had a Top 10 list of the, well, most unfavorable Lin Puns.
What ever happens next is anybody's guess. He could dip back into obscurity. But we will definitely remember these catchy puns.
