Spring is just around the corner and every year, downtown celebrates spring with art, music and locally owned businesses with the Spring into the Arts art walk! Are you an artist looking to gain exposure in Southwest Michigan through displaying your work or performing? Are you able to adapt to unique venues to showcase your work? Each spring, artists from Battle Creek to Scotland express artistic notions in partnership with downtown businesses and it’s time to plan this year’s event, scheduled for Friday, May 17. Past events have included photography, clay, fabric, mixed media, watercolor as well as street musicians, theatre, sidewalk chalk, photography booths, wearable art, spoken word and interactive art.
To be considered for the art walk, submit your artistic notion to be considered as an artist for the seventh annual event. Submissions should highlight current work and what you would like to display during the event. All submissions should be emailed toAlyssa@downtownbattlecreek.com or sent via USPS to 115 W. Michigan Avenue, Battle Creek, MI 49017 no later than March 14, 2013. No walk-in’s please. Art encompasses many mediums and this event highlights most, but direct sale vendors will not be considered.

Post Community Credit Union is taking applications for its Caesar Sams Scholarship; this monetary award will provide financial assistance to members pursuing higher education through college, university or trade school. The one-time non-renewable $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to (3) 2013 high school graduates. The successful candidate will be selected based on their application, GPA and a written essay.
