KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Deb Droppers, the organizer of New Year’s Fest says some of the changes they have made to make it a better event, will make it easier to deal with the extreme cold predicted for Sunday night when they will have over seventy acts performing in a number of venues around Bronson Park.
They are grouping similar acts into clusters and sometimes the same buildings so patrons don’t have to travel so far.
They are moving the children’s activities from a tent in the park to the Downtown Public Library, and have scheduled some of the entertainers who are more youth oriented to venues near the library.
The performance that has opened every event, Tuba New Year will move off the Rotary Stage and into the tent so they can maintain that tradition, without forcing the artists to perform in the cold or the audience to have to stand in the cold to listen.
And one final change for the last event of the night, the fireworks show welcoming in the New Year at Midnight will be compressed from 20 minutes to ten. More bang in less time to reduce exposure to the cold.
Other than those changes, it will be the same wonderful non-alcoholic event it has been every year with more bands this year. Droppers says that was by popular demand.
Buttons can be found at Harding’s Stores, the Public Libraries, Tuffy Muffler, the Maple Hill Auto Group and Discover Kalamazoo, or they can be purchased online.
The event has a website and even an App to help you plan your evening.
