BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek’s Cereal Festival was a partial washout as persistent rain showers and periodic lightning forced organizers to cancel the rest of the event, including the Festival Parade.
Thousands turned out for the first two hours, but that’s when the rain and lightning drenched the world’s longest breakfast table and anyone who was out in the open.
The cancellation notice came at about 10:30. Organizers say they are already planning next year’s event, when they hope the weather will be more cooperative.
Kalamazoo’s Pride Fest worked around the rain.
Kalamazoo’s Mud Run may have been enhanced by the wet weather, although no one likes being outdoors when there is lightning.
Its probably safe to say that a few barbeques were ruined and plans to mow lawns had to be delayed.
The long range forecast for next weekend is better.
