FFB Advice From An Almost Champion: Start 'Em/Sit 'Em Week 5

by Joe

Is anyone REALLY going to be watching Bills vs Browns tonight? You know, we all think it's going to be a bad game but both of these teams are 2-2, both have QB's who are getting their first primetime showcase (EJ Manuel for Buffalo, Brian Hoyer for Cleveland), and is there anything else to do tonight? If you're watching for fantasy implications then hopefully you have Manuel or Hoyer as your backup due to a bye week or something. They'll get you some points but probably won't have very good games to replace you're regular starter.

I'm still looking for my first win in this league but my other one I've won three in a row (for some reason I do better in bigger leagues, no clue why). Let's get you ready for this week's games with "Start 'Em/Sit 'Em"!

Start 'Em

1. Fred Jackson, RB Bills

Here's an interesting stat: Jackson has double digit fantasy points in standard leagues for the first month of the season. He'll be involved in the passing and rushing game almost as a balanced attack. He's listed as Probable but he'll play against the Browns tonight.

2. Danny Woodhead, RB Chargers

Woodhead had two touchdowns against the Cowboys last Sunday and is becoming Phillip Rivers target for dumpoff passes. He's perfect for the 2nd RB/Flex spot for this week. The Chargers play the Raiders very early on Sunday and he could play in the mix from the start.

3. Kenbrell Thompkins, WR Patriots

Have I mentioned how much I like this kid? He has three scores in the past two games and over 100 yards receiving in both of them. With Danny Amendola possibly coming back his targets could shrink a little bit but don't look for Tom Brady to go too far away from what has been working. He likes consistency and Thompkins has been money.

4. Alshon Jeffery, WR Bears

He exploded last week (I left him on my bench, go figure) because the Bears were playing from behind almost the entire game, so that factors into his stats. The Bears opponent this week? Just this team from New Orleans who threw up 38 on the scoreboard Monday night. He's worth a flex play or if you have a deeper 3WR league.

Sit 'Em

1. Miles Austin, WR Cowboys

He's hurt (yet again) and that's going to slow him down because it's his hamstring (again). Also, the Cowboys play the Broncos and Austin has not cracked double digit fantasy points this season as Dez Bryant has gobbled up the majority of the work.

2. Bernard Pierce/Ray Rice, RB Ravens

Rice still isn't 100% and that factored into the Ravens loss last week. Pierce wasn't very productive either. I'm not saying to sit both of them but one of them doesn't need to play against the Dolphins for you this weekend (unless you're in some freak world where you got to vulture Pierce and had Rice to start the year). So flip a coin, do rock/paper/scissors with yourself, something to pick one of them to bench.

3. Jaguars who AREN'T Cecil Shorts

Seriously, why would you have Jag's players on your roster right now?

4. Brandon Pettigrew, TE Lions

We all know where the targets go for this offense and with the emergence of vintage Reggie Bush this season, the Lions aren't having to rely much on the pass like last year. That takes away value from Pettigrew plus they're playing the Packers off of a bye week. Safe to say he won't do a whole lot this weekend, which has been his thing all season.

Well, good luck to you and may this advice be the best advice in the world (or at least the best advice that you read today). We'll talk again on Tuesday with the Waiver Wires!
