With 24 hours before the opening pitch of the season, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus finally put to rest what the lineup will be in first managerial game.
1. Ian Kinsler 2B
2. Torii Hunter RF
3. Miguel Cabrera 1B
4. Victor Martinez DH
5. Austin Jackson CF
6. Alex Avila C
7. Nick Castellanos 3B
8. Alex Gonzalez SS
9. Raja Davis LF
SP. Justin Verlander
Only Hunter and Cabrera remain in the same spot in the lineup as last year. This will be Austin Jacksons first opening day that he is not hitting leadoff as he drops to fifth in the lineup and Ian Kinsler takes over at the top of the lineup. While this will be Mondays lineup, dont expect Ausmus to keep it this way for long.
I dont think anythings locked in there, Ausmus said. Were going to have to see how it goes as we start playing games. Have an idea going into each game how it stands, but it could be in a little bit of a flux unless someone grabs the role, or any of the roles, and runs with it.
Victor Martinez moves up a spot to hit cleanup replacing Prince Fielder, and Alex Avila moves up two spots from last years Opening Day lineup to hit sixth. The Tigers bottom third features three new faces to the Tigers 2014 roster.
Max Scherzer is scheduled to the start the Tigers second game, while Anibal Sanchez will get the mound in the series finale against the Royals. Rick Porcello and Drew Smyly will round out the rotation.
The Tigers and Kansas City Royals open the season tomorrow at Comerica Park with first pitch set for 1:08pm.
