My beloved Minnesota Twins are terrible again this year. I still try to catch as many games as I can, regardless of their record. I suppose I'm a glutton for punishment.
At least a few times each year all teams take a trip to the west coast to face teams like L.A. and Seattle. Because of the time difference, a first pitch set for 7:05pm locally is after 9pm in our neck of the woods. Considering a game lasts close to three hours, that means a bedtime of around midnight.
I can deal with the lack of sleep. What really gets me is when I fall asleep and wake up the next morning only to realize that I missed a great game.
As I drifted off to dreamland last night, Minnesota was down a few runs to the Angels. Little did I know, Minnesota tied the game at 3-3 going into extra innings. That's when it got really good!
Third-string catcher Chris Hermann blasted his first career grand slam en route to a 10-3 Twins victory.
Of all the games I consume throughout the year, chances are that I won't see many grand slams to win it for the good guys in extra innings.
On the bright side, the Twins wrap up their series in Anaheim this afternoon. And, it's tough to beat late afternoon baseball during the week.
