DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – The Detroit Red Wings have released their schedule for the inaugural season at Little Caesars Arena. Earlier this week, Detroit announced the first regular season game at the LCA will be held October 5, 2017 against the Minnesota Wild.
Yesterday, the rest of the 82-game schedule was announced and highlights include eight home matchups against Original Six rivals and the return of the New Year’s Eve contest as the Wings will host the Pittsburgh Penguins December 31.
Detroit will visit the expansion Las Vegas Golden Knights October 13, and the Golden Knights will make the return trip to play the Wings in Detroit March 8. The Red Wings wrap up the regular season at home against the New York Islanders April 7, 2018.
The Red Wings have the ninth overall pick in tonight’s first round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. It marks the first time since 1991 that the team has had a top-ten selection. Detroit has 11 total picks this year, tied with New Jersey and Philadelphia for the most in the league.
The draft continues tomorrow with rounds two through seven.
