COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two of the four suspects from Southwest Michigan accused of plotting to kidnap, rape, and kill a random child they planned to find at a county fair have been officially charged with the crime.
Jayme LaPointe of Athens and David Bailey of Coldwater are both being held on $5 million bonds after they were arraigned in Branch County District Court on conspiracy to commit kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, and murder.
Bailey was arraigned Sunday and initially ordered held without bond. But he was brought back to District Court Monday after the Michigan Attorney General’s Office withdrew their request that bond be denied and that a very high bond be set instead.
The other two suspects, Matthew Toole of Battle Creek and Talia Furman of Springfield, are expected to be arraigned today.
