COLDWATER (WTVB) - It was a deadly weekend for motorcyclists on Branch County roads with three people killed in two separate accidents while a third crash sent two people to the hospital.
A Coldwater couple was killed when the motorcycle they were riding slammed into a car that deputies say pulled out in front of them at Dayburg and Marshall Roads in Girard Township about 5pm yesterday. Charles and Jeanine Skutt, both 45-years old, were pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies are investigating, but say the driver of the car, 17 year old Tracy Clevenger of Litchfield, may have been on the phone at the time.
A man is dead and his wife injured after the Honda motorcycle they were riding struck a deer Saturday night. Sixty-six-year-old George Jones was eastbound along Bater Road in Batavia Township when the deer sprung into his path. The collision sent the three-wheeled motorcycle into the ditch. Jones was dead at the scene. His 60-year-old wife Janice has been hospitalized with multiple injuries.
Surviving a collision with a deer yesterday were a Farmington Hills couple who crashed their motorcycle on M-86 in Batavia Township west of Wheeler Road. Sheriff’s Deputies said the accident happened around 11:20 Sunday morning. The man and woman, both 55-years old, were thrown from the cycle by the impact. They each were wearing helmets and deputies say alcohol was not a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation. The two were treated for their injuries at the Community Health Center in Coldwater.
