LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan Ag. Dept. Spokesperson Jennifer Holton says some of the tainted eggs from Iowa apparently made it into Michigan, but they aren’t sure where they went. It’s taken them a week just to discover that some crossed the border. Tracking where they wound up may take longer.
Consumers stricken with salmonella from tainted eggs are suing the companies that marketed them. Food safety attorney Bill Marler represents several dozen plaintiffs who say they have been stricken with salmonella from eggs. Marler has represented clients during other food illness outbreaks. He argues that the responsibility for the cost of treatment isn't rightfully that of insurance companies or the federal government and the companies responsible should cover it.
The attorney cautions that complications from salmonella can persist for long periods of time after the initial illness is treated.
