UNDATED (WKZO) -- If you were hoping that the public mood against negative campaigning might keep it out of the Governor’s Race this fall, sorry. Both Republican Party Chair Ron Weiser and Democratic Chair Mark Brewer told this station yesterday that they won’t be shy about going after their opponents.

Rick Snyder may want to keep his ads positive, but the GOP, not so much, according to Weiser.

In fact Brewer launched right into what will be a theme of some of their attack ads, what Snyder did as an executive at Gateway Computers. And Brewer says you can expect a lot of third party ads not connected to the campaigns who will be taking shots at the candidates for many offices.

The fall campaign traditionally doesn’t start until Labor Day but neither of the candidates for Governor this year are exactly traditional, and both have been touring the state by bus since before the Conventions.

The Democrats wrapped up their gathering at Cobo Hall Sunday with a speech by gubernatorial nominee Virg Bernero. The Lansing mayor says he has a "Main Street agenda" to benefit those victimized by the economic downturn.

Republican gubernatorial nominee Rick Snyder toured the West Side yesterday, starting in Traverse City and ending the day in Holland.

Public polls released in the last two weeks have shown Snyder with a lead well into double digits. The general election is November 2nd.
