FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WTAQ) - An elderly man has died after falling into icy Lake Winnebago during the opening day of the 2010 sturgeon spearing season. Authorities in Fond du Lac say the 85-year-old man was from rural Malone. He was pronounced dead at the scene after bystanders pulled him out. Sheriff's Lt. Rick Olig says preliminary indications suggest the death was medically-related.

It's the second straight year in which opening day of sturgeon spearing has been marred by tragedy. A St. Nazianz man and his daughter died when their truck plunged through the ice. A third girl was inside the truck also, but managed to survive.
