TAMPA -- (WKZO) The Associated Press is reporting that longtime New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner has died after suffering a heart attack in Tampa, Florida.
The 80-year-old Steinbrenner had pulled away from daily operations in recent years at the New York Yankees. In his absence sons Hal and Hank have taken over as the managing partners of the Yankees.
Steinbrenner had owned the Yankees since 1973 which is the longest amount of time in club history that an owner has owned the team. During Steinbrenner's run as the owner the Yankees won 11 pennants and 7 World Series titles including last season's win.
