UNDATED (WKZO) -- Times aren’t getting any better for the children of Michigan. We have dropped three places in the national rankings, from 27th to 30th when it comes to child care and Jane Zehnder Merrell with Kids Count says the economy gets most of the blame.

She says some statistics have held firm, like graduation rates and teen Pregnancy rates but that may also be a reaction to the sour economy. She says with the situation deteriorating, she hates to hear politicians talking about cutting taxes, and trimming the state workforce, because she says it will make a bad situation worse. She says the poverty rate in Michigan has increased 36% since 2000.
