HURON COUNTY (WKZO) -- There is still a family of wolverines at the Detroit Zoo, but the only known wild wolverine ever seen in Michigan, has been found dead in the Minden State Game Area in Huron County, where it lived alone.
The body was found by hikers Saturday.
Michigan became known as the “Wolverine State” during the Toledo War of 1835. Ohio’s soldiers claimed that Michiganians fought like the nasty vicious member of the weasel family. It was meant as an insult but the nickname stuck.
