KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Some say the mystery odor is back on Kalamazoo’s Eastside, but most say it’s the same stink that has been floating around the Riverview- Patterson Street area for years if not decades, and not the truly gut wrenching stench that plagued the area last year.
A lot of the county’s solid waste converges at that one location into the city’s water recycling plant on Harrison. Last year studies suggested that an underground chamber where hot water from Graphics Packaging met raw wastes from a septic company on the East Side might be the source of the really bad stench.
That problem was addressed when the chamber was sealed. City crews are monitoring but so far only a few complaints have been logged.
