KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Three people are in the hospital following an accident yesterday morning on the I-94 business loop that nearly ripped one of the cars in half. Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the intersection of I-94 and River Street shortly after 8 a.m. to find three people injured and a vehicle on fire.
The Comstock Fire Department responded and doused the red 2000 Neon. They say a Green Lake, Wisconsin woman was traveling eastbound when Kalamazoo resident Sarah Cooley and passenger Daniel Hodges tried to turn off the road onto River Street, putting themselves in the path of Emily Boerson's oncoming vehicle. All three were taken to area hospitals for treatment of injuries. Cooley was cited for the collision.
Two area men have been killed on a trip through North Dakota. They were on I-94 near Jamestown when their pick-up, which was hauling a camper, went out of control on the frosty road surface and ended upside down in a water filed ditch. Dead are 59 year old Harold Mattmiller Jr. of Mendon, and 55 year old William McGehee of Kalamazoo. They were cut out of the wreck but pronounced dead at the hospital.
