MANITOWOC COUNTY, Wis. (WTAQ) - It was 10 years ago Wednesday when a fierce wind and hail storm hit the small Manitowoc County town of St. Nazianz. Almost half of the 69 structures in a mobile home park were destroyed. Damage totaled $46 million, plus $4 million to nearby farm crops. 31 people were injured – and amazingly, no one was killed.
Today, those residents who were there said they remembered it just like yesterday. Allen Reichwaldt said the noon sky turned “black as night” as the storm blew through. Winds surpassed 100 miles an hour, with 2.5 inch hail. Some residents of the mobile home park fixed or replaced their structures after the storm, while others moved away.
