SOUTH HAVEN (WKZO) -- Fire officials are now saying that a pleasure craft that burst into flames on the Black River this week had a leaky carburetor. They initially believed it was poor ventilation of the engine compartment, but after an inspection of the 24-foot Bayliner, they now say it appears that it was a mechanical failure that was responsible for the blast and smoky fire.

The explosion took place shortly after the operator, Keith Neinhuis, refueled the boat at the South Haven Yacht club. His wife, Nancy Neinhuis remains hospitalized at the Bronson Hospital Burn Unit with second degree burns.
