HAMILTON (WKZO) -- The FDA wants a permanent injunction to block a dairy operation with farms in Fennville, Gowen and Freeport from selling its drug tainted cows to slaughterhouses, fearing that meat could wind up on your dinner plate.

The Justice Department has filed a complaint on behalf of the Food and Drug Administration against Scenic View Dairy of Hamilton along with the company's president and three managers. The government accuses the dairy of selling dairy cows for human consumption that had illegal drug residues in edible tissues after the dairy had received eight warnings against such practices over the past decade.

The government alleges the dairy sold cows for slaughter that were treated with the antibiotics neomycin, penicillin and sulfadimethoxine, drugs contrary for their FDA-approved labeling and without a valid prescription.

Apparently it doesn’t effect the milk, but anyone who was allergic to those drugs could have a problem if they consume the meat.
