NEENAH, Wis. (WTAQ) - A Neenah teen convicted of killing his father wants a new trial.

A lawyer for 19-year-old Zach Reid filed a brief with an appeals court saying Reid's old attorney didn't know that his client was on drugs and alcohol at the time of the strangling.

The Appleton Post-Crescent reports intoxication is a valid defense against a homicide charge.

Reid was convicted in 2009 and is serving a 40 year prison sentence.
