KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO) - That’s what the Kalamazoo County board has voted to find out by soliciting for bids for a 250-bed addition. It’s just not beds. They also want to add a new intake facility, holding cells, a clinic and classrooms if they can afford it.
Corporate Council Thom Canny says they should have around 23.6-million dollars in the bank for the project. The county spends hundreds of thousands every year renting space in other county jails because they have more prisoners than they have beds.
In the long run, owning is cheaper than renting.
