KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO) -- A Comstock woman who allegedly got drunk, sheared off a power pole and injured her two pre-schoolers, now faces multiple felonies, including driving drunk causing injury and child endangerment.

Police say Valerie Phelps was arguing with her boyfriend, Phillip Robinson, when her car veered into the pole on Portage St. late Sunday night.

The 3 and 4-year-old children in the back were not in restraint seats.  Police later found those seats in the trunk.  Both of the children suffered broken limbs and are listed in fair condition.  Her blood-alcohol level was just over the legal limit.

Her friends say she is a good mother, but she apparently had a serious lapse in judgment and has already begun paying for it.  Her bond was set at 25-hundred dollars.  She was already on probation for shoplifting, further complicating her legal situation.
