Tiger manager Jim Leyland said Tuesday that veteran infielder Brandon Inge is staying with the club and will play some part-time second base and fill-in if necessary at third. Inge, who hit just .180 this spring, was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday with a left groin strain.
Also, Detroit right-handed pitcher Luis Marte was put on the D-L with a left hamstring injury. His roster spot was taken by lefty hurler Duane Below.
The Tigers dropped their final Grapefruit League game yesterday, losing 13-to-8 to the Blue Jays and they left Florida with a 20-8-and-5 record.
This afternoon, Detroit will play an exhibition game at Toledo against their Triple-A farm club and then tomorrow afternoon, it’s the season opener at Comerica Park against the Red Sox.
