PLAINWELL (WKZO) -- Representatives from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Rural Development toured construction sites throughout Michigan Wednesday where USDA funded projects are underway.
James Turner, USDA State Director for Michigan, visited a renovation project in Plainwell, MI that is currently in the progress of building a new public safety facility for the city. Previous to construction, the site at 119 Cedar St had been the location of the Plainwell Paper Mill that had become dilapidated.
Director Turner along with city, state, and national representatives toured the construction site to see how the USDA's dollars have gone to work creating jobs as well as a new facility for public use. USDA Rural Development provided a $1,350,000 Community Facility loan for the purpose of renovating the existing building into a new 14,100 square foot facility.
