The Tigers have a new catcher to backup Alex Avilla. Detroit has agreed to a one-year deal with Brayan Pena. Pena batted .236 with two home runs and 25 RBI’S last season with the Royals. He has also played for the Atlanta Braves during his eight seasons at the major league level.
General Manager Dave Dombrowski says Pena, a switch-hitter, will serve as a solid complement to Avilla following the departure of Gerald Laird who signed last month as a free agent with Atlanta
