FAYETTEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA (WKZO) -- An autopsy is being conducted on the body of a West Michigan serviceman who was found dead inside his off-base apartment in Fayetteville, North Carolina last Friday.
They aren’t sure what killed 37-year-old Sgt. First Class Jeffrey Griffey, but there were no signs of foul play.
The Byron Center paratrooper was a veteran of the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan and was reportedly nearing retirement. Military officials says he was a decorated warrior who was a family man focused on his three kids. Because it happened off base, its being handled by civilian investigators and they are waiting for autopsy results.
