QUINCY, MI (WTVB) - In April, the village of Quincy lost a popular resident, Gerald Quimby, who died at the age of 87 at The Laurels of Coldwater, following a stroke. He who was known to many as the man in the orange vest who was often found around the village collecting pop cans, taking a nap on a bench or strolling the school grounds with this milk crate during an athletic event. To keep Quimby's memory alive, the Quincy High School (QHS) Varsity Club will host a returnable can/bottle drive on Saturday, Dec. 15 from 12-3 p.m. Varsity Club members posted fliers on village residents' doors late last week, and reminders have been abundant on social media sites recently. All proceeds will directly benefit the Gerald Quimby Scholarship Fund. All graduating QHS seniors continuing their education in the field of environmental sciences will be eligible for the Gerald Quimby Scholarship. Monetary donations to this fund can also be made at any time. They can be mailed to Quincy High School, in care of the Quincy Varsity Club. Please note Gerald Quimby Scholarship Fund on the memo line of the check. For more information, call QHS at 517-639-9245.
