HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) - Light snow Tuesday morning and wet spots from Monday that froze over created black ice and hazardous driving conditions yesterday around Branch County with at least a dozen accidents reported to 9-1-1 central dispatch.
There were just a couple of minor injuries in the slide offs and rollovers. However, a head-on crash on along slippery M-99 in Hillsdale took the life of a 45-year old man and seriously injured the 17-year old driver of the other car. The fatal victim was identified as 45-year old Mick Obenour of Jackson County’s Pulaski Township. He was just moments away from arriving at his workplace, Hillsdale Chrysler, where he was employed for 26 years.
Obenour leaves behind a wife and two sons, ages 10-and-8. The teen driving the other vehicle that crossed the centerline, was flown to a Toledo hospital for treatment and is now reported in fair condition. Two others in the car suffered non-life threatening injuries in the collision that occurred just before 8 a.m.
