COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Two lifers who tried but failed to breakout very early on Christmas day from the Lakeland Men’s Correctional Facility in Coldwater, face escape charges. 32-year-old Jamasa Darling, is serving life for killing three teens in Allegan County in 1999.  Michael Jackson who is also 32, was serving life for armed robbery and home invasion.

They reportedly wore several layers of clothing to try and protect their bodies from the razor wire, but they set off motion detectors. The Michigan Department of Corrections says they were recaptured before they could get over the first of two fences surrounding the facility. Because they are doing life, they can’t be given any additional time, but they will be reassigned to higher security facilities
