Central Michigan held on last night to defeat Western Kentucky 24-to-21 in the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit. The victory allowed the Chippewas to end the season with a 7-and-6 record. C-M-U scored the winning points with just over 5 minutes remaining on Ryan Radcliff’s third touchdown pass of the night.
The Hilltoppers, out of the Sun Belt Conference, were stopped by a fourth-and-two incomplete pass at Central’s 19-yard line in the final minute when a field goal could have sent the game into overtime. The defeat in Western Kentucky’s first ever bowl appearance dropped their record to 7-and-6. After the game, Chippewas’ Coach Dan Enos said he was glad to come out on top in a very even battle
Central Michigan, which finished fourth in the Mid-American Conference West Division, needed to win its final three games of the regular season to even become bowl eligible and last night justified their selection by capturing the program's first postseason victory since its last bowl appearance in 2009.
Three more games are on tap for today beginning with this afternoon’s Military Bowl in Washington, D.C. at RFK Stadium between Bowling Green and San Jose State. Then tonight, it’s the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina with Duke vs. Cincinnati followed by the Holiday Bowl in San Diego with Baylor taking on U-C-L-A.
