UNDATED (WTVB) - Should smoking with children in a car be against the law? It isn’t in Michigan and most states. Fewer kids and teenagers are exposed to secondhand smoke while riding in cars, but the numbers are still high enough to worry health care officials, according to the new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Nearly one-third of middle and high school students surveyed said they'd ridden in a car with someone who was smoking in the past week.  Authors of the study say more state and local governments should ban smoking when kids and teens are in the car.  Arkansas California, Louisiana and Maine, as well as Puerto Rico have such laws on the books.  The report is published in today's online edition of the journal "Pediatrics."
