State Law Makers Want to Tighten Medical Marijuana Laws

LANSING (WKZO)  --  State lawmakers want to tighten up the laws concerning Medical Marijuana, but they are limited in what they can do because it was approved by the voters and not by lawmakers. That means it will take a super-majority to make changes.

One change they want to make is to require a real doctor-patient relationship before receiving a medical marijuana card.

Judiciary Chair John Walsh says they just want to make it work like the voters intended and to curb abuses.

But proponents claim there have also been abuses by law enforcers who harass legitimate users.  Walsh hopes by clarifying the law, they can end four years of confusion over what the law is and what it isn’t.

They hope to have legislation drafted by later this spring.
