The Lion’s perilous playoff hopes took a hit yesterday when they lost 34-to-24 to the Vikings at Minnesota.

The Lions are best at being inconsistent and there wasn’t enough good to outweigh the bad for Detroit yesterday at Minnesota where Adrian Peterson and the Vikings ran away with a 34-to-24 victory. The Lion’s loss dented their shaky playoff hopes, leaving them with a 4-and-5 record in last place in the NFC North while the third place Vikings improved to 6-and-4 and within reach of the second place Packers and first place Bears.

Minnesota yesterday used their best player and the league’s leading rusher to beat down Detroit as Adrian Peterson rushed for 171 yards. His lone score was a game-sealing 61 yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter that put the Vikings up 31-to-17. Lion’s receiver Calvin Johnson made a career-high 12 catches for 207 yards but he also coughed up a costly fumble in the final period that putMinnesotain range for the field goal that extended their lead to 34-to-17. Matthew Stafford passed for 329 yards, three scores and an interception in defeat.

Lion’s linebacker Stephen Tulloch says Peterson was too much to handle… Next up on the Lion’s schedule is a home game Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, who will visit Ford Field coming off their bye week. The 6-and-3 Packers are just one game behind the North leading Bears, who fell to 7-and-2 last night with their 13-to-6 loss in Chicago to the  8-and-1 with the Atlanta Falcons, who suffered their first defeat yesterday 31-to-27 at New Orleans.

The other major story that surfaced from Sunday’s games was three starting quarterbacks being lost to concussions as Jay Cutler of the Bears, Michael Vick of the Eagles and Alex Smith of the 49’ers all were knocked out of action with the Bears and Eagles going on to lose while the 49’ers ended up in a 24-24 overtime tie with the Rams.
