ANN ARBOR, MI (WTVB) - As we first reported last week, that meningitis outbreak has evolved into something else, something that doctors have apparently never seen before. St Joseph Mercy Hospital near Ann Arbor has become the center for treatment of the victims in Michigan.
Neurosurgeon Jeffrey Thomas says they are finding more patients with absesses, holding in the contamination, but threatening to let go. They have treated 54 for Meningitis, found abscesses in 81 more and are testing 600 others who received the tainted Steroid Shots and finding new cases all the time.
Some steroid shot victims who have been symptom free are learning they have abscesses and aren’t out of the woods yet.
Two more deaths from the outbreak were recorded yesterday.
